Chargers are available in three basic formats:
NIMH economy chargers: These are non timed and non sensored - you have to put them on for a certain amount of time (how to calculate this is always in or on the box).
NIMH peak chargers: These automatically condition the charge and switch off when the battery is fully charged, they're the best ones to get. Guide charge times (for a 2000mah battery, others will be proportionally longer or shorter) - 1 amp charger will take around 2 hours, 2 amp charger around an hour, 3 amp charger around 40 minutes and so on.
LIPO/LIFE/LIION chargers: These are special chargers for Lithium based batteries. Lithium batteries are far more powerful but also more unstable so need careful charging - these chargers all have a double socket set up and computerised control - the charger will precisely monitor the battery and stop when done. You can never use a NIMH charger on a Lithium battery but some Lithium chargers are what's called "Multi Chemisty" and can be switched to NIMH mode.
