Tamiya brings yet another off-road buggy to its vast library of high-performance and fun to build R/C kits. This is the Astute 2022, which is based on the new TD2 chassis.

TD2 chassis at a glance:
The new TD2 chassis is based around the TD4 chassis. Just like the TD4 machine, it employs a front inboard suspension layout which offers exceptionally slim, low-profile form. Its front suspension arms have a skid angle of 25 degrees, for amazing ground-hugging and stable performance, plus CVA oil dampers to allow smooth suspension movement. Furthermore, the chassis is based on a one-piece monocoque frame, uses the same ball differential as the ones used on the TD4 chassis, plus full ball bearings are used throughout the driveline. The battery pack is positioned transversely and positioned to the rear. Finally, a midship transverse motor layout with 3 gears connecting it to the drivetrain provide optimum balance and improved performance.

- Ribbed front and rear square spike tires facilitate stability and great grip. Newly designed star dish design front wheels are attached by hex hubs.
- 4-wheel double wishbone suspension system uses CVA oil dampers for supple performance.
- Choose between high and low type wing stays to adjust the downforce set up of the buggy.
- Driver figure included for extra realism.
- Requires: 2-channel radio with receiver and steering servo, ESC, 540-size motor, 7.2 volt battery with compatible charger, and Tamiya PS paint to complete.
 
Options Explained
 
Radio System: There is a choice of a TWIN STICK (Traditional) radio or a Steering Wheel (Modern) radios. All operate on 2.4Ghz and use the new Crystal-Free technology, so you can run multiple cars at the same time without any interference. All radios chosen from this page will include a steering servo* as these are not included in the kit itself.
 
ESC: This is the connection between the radio system and the motor. You have several choices. Tamiya no longer make their own ESC, instead they supply from their facilities Hobbywing or Mstyle units. Where a model number is shown (e.g. 20 or 15) that is the motor capacity of the unit - the lower the number, the more powerful a motor you can install later. All work with the motor in the kit.
 
Battery: The higher the number, the longer the run time.
 
Charger: Charge time is proportional to the battery you choose. Some examples - for the 1800 battery (others will take longer) - USB charger takes around 4 hours, Mid Speed around 2 to 3 hours, Etronix Fast Charger can be as quick as 60 minutes in the house or 30 minutes in the car and Ansmann Delta also around 30 minutes (and also works in the car).

* Steering servo included with our radios is a standard height one.  This kit may specify a low profile servo which is in short supply for optimum assembly, this is listed as Carson Low Profile on this site when we have it in stock.
